Family Ecology Sails – June 17, July 15, August 19, 1:30p – 5p

Join us on the Appledore IV for a fun day of learning the science of our land and waterways. The Family Ecology Sail is a hands-on experience for everyone onboard.

In the Saginaw River you’ll learn the different factors of weather, point and nonpoint source pollution, basic knots and navigation techniques, and observe native species in the habitats.

At the Saginaw Bay you’ll collect lake bottom samples and help the crew raise and set the sails.

Heading back upriver to Bay City you’ll analyze the benthic samples by testing the water for pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen and nitrate levels. You’ll even get the chance to observe live plankton beneath a microscope!

Snacks and juice/water are included. Children under 6 years old are required, by law, to wear a lifejacket at all times while onboard the ship. Participants must provide their own lifejacket for children under 6 years old.

Adults $35, Children $20
