Getting Ahead is a FREE economic empowerment program offering long-term solutions for economic
stability. The curriculum is based on the evidence-based work of Dr. Ruby Payne, who authored “Bridges Out of Poverty” and “Getting Ahead”.
The topics covered in the program include:
My Life Now
Theory of Change
Causes of Poverty
Hidden Rules of Economic Class
The 11 resources
The program also includes guest speakers who provide information on financial literacy, job outlook in the region, education opportunities, and more. Participants complete several self-assessments during the course, and are continually working towards their goals. Each participant ends with a comprehensive economic action plan for success that offers detailed objectives needed to reach those goals.
YWCA staff offer follow-up support services after completion of the program. Participants who graduate are also eligible to apply for funding to meet employment and education goals. Some examples of financial support have included vocational training, certifications, licensing, and uniforms.
Past graduates have gone on to attend universities and have found employment that has improved their lives economically and personally.
Spring Enrollment: January – February
